Thermage

When you have facial features that you wish were more well contoured and smooth, thermage can be an effective approach to treatment. Through this process monopolar radiofrequencies are applied to the skin in a safe procedure that doesn’t destroy skin cells and is therefor non-ablative. It’s quite popular among practitioners and patients alike thanks to the lack of downtime and ability to be used on all types of skin.

The desire to turn back the clock on aging is nearly universal, but for many, opting for cosmetic surgery can seem a bit extreme. It’s an invasive procedure with an extensive recovery or down time, which can cause embarrassment. But, even non-surgical procedures involving filler injections can leave swelling or bruising, and don’t last long at all.

That’s why Thermage has become our most popular facial rejuvenation procedure. Quick, easy, and non-invasive, Thermage heats the deepest layers of your skin while cooling the surface layers with ThermaCool. This unique treatment stimulates collagen production and tightens and smoothes the skin.

We can perform Thermage procedures on many areas, including:

  • Face
  • Chin
  • Abdominal area
  • Arms
  • Legs

Did You Know…
Heat based treatments like Thermage help stimulate production of collagen in the skin, the substance within the body that helps to create tightness and firmness within the skin. Regrowth of collagen that has broken down can restore a smooth, youthful look to damaged areas.

Thermage requires no anesthesia and the entire treatment takes just a couple of hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a Thermage treatment?

The duration of a Thermage treatment is determined by the area being treated. In most instances the treatment will take somewhere between a half an hour and two hours.

Where can I receive Thermage treatments?
Thermage is approved for us on the entire face, including areas of the neck, eyelids, and face. Additionally it can be used to treat the thighs, arms, hands, and abdomen.

Will I require multiple treatments to see results?
In most cases patients report a single Thermage treatment being sufficient to see the results they desire.

What kind of results can I look forward to?
Skin tightening occurs almost immediately following the application of the Thermage treatment in most patients. Improvements often continue to appear for a period of six months following the treatment, though the results may vary based on the condition and age of the patient, as well as the condition of their skin.

How long will the results from Thermage last?
The typical period of time Thermage results remain apparent is two years, though environmental factors can play a role. To maintain the results as long as possible patients should avoid smoking and sun exposure, both of which have been shown to break down collagen in patients.

Are there any side-effects to worry about?
The most common side-effects experienced by patients are a tightness of the skin and mild redness. In some cases tenderness may be experienced following the treatment. There is no downtime with Thermage, and patients can return to their typical daily routine immediately.

Is fat atrophy a concern with Thermage?
Fat atrophy was a problem when Thermage first was released onto the market, and was specifically an issue when patients were placed under general anesthesia and unable to report any unusual pain. This resulted in fat being burned. At our clinic we administer an oral medication and reduce the temperature of the Thermage treatment system to accommodate the patient’s tolerance and avoid damage.

Is Thermage Painful?
Some locations on the body are more sensitive to heat and pain than others, so your experience getting Thermage may vary. The sensations you may experience during the treatment include a cold sensation following the radiofrequency pulse followed by an experience of heat, and then cold once again. This process is usually tolerable for most patients with oral medication.

What is Thermage?

Thermage is a safe, non-invasive procedure that’s clinically proven to help tighten and contour your skin. Its unique deep-heating technology stimulates and renews your own collagen, resulting in tighter, smoother skin. *Results may vary

Thermage is completely non-invasive – no surgery or injections. Unlike lasers, Thermage works on all skin types and tones. The procedure is typically performed in a single session. And there’s little to no downtime – so you can quickly resume your normal routine.

How does Thermage work?

To understand how Thermage works, it helps to know a little about how your skin works.

The skin is made up of three distinct layers: a visible outer layer on the surface called the epidermis, a collagen-rich underlayer beneath the surface called the dermis, and an inner layer beneath the dermis called the subcutaneous layer (also known as the fat layer) that has a web of collagen fibers running through it.

As you age, collagen in these three layers break down and your skin begins to sag and wrinkle. Naturally, treatments that work on just the surface can’t do anything to restore the collagen in the dermis or the inner subcutaneous layer of your skin.

Thermage is the only non-invasive procedure available that tightens and renews your skin’s collagen in all three layers. How? Thermage’s unique Capacitive Radiofrequency (CRF) technology safely heats your skin’s underlayer and the web of collagen in the inner layer, causing an immediate tightening as well as improved tone and texture. The improvements will continue and become even more noticeable for four to six months following treatment, due to new collagen growth.

Thermage is safer than invasive cosmetic procedures. Unlike lasers, it works on all skin types and colors. Best of all, you only need one treatment to obtain the full benefits. In addition, there is little to no downtime, so you can quickly resume your daily routine.

What can I expect during the treatment?

During the treatment, you’ll feel a brief, heat sensation each time Thermage delivers energy to the underlayer of your skin. This indicates that your collagen is being stimulated and tightened. Thermage is a very safe procedure. Side effects are generally mild and may include redness, swelling, blisters, bumps and rare instances of surface irregularities.
